Creator Sessions: behind-the-scenes running an online concert series

Hi Reader,

How is your week going so far? It's hot here! I can't believe it's already August. Also can't believe it's Wednesday, sorry I'm late this week! Time is both so slow and so fast in 2020, I can't keep track.

Behind the scenes running an online concert series

A few months ago we started Creator Sessions. It's an online concert series where we feature a different creator every week and let them tell their story and share their talent. They come to us from their own homes, share their stories, and share their art.

The creators have really shown up! They are vulnerable and open and have really blown us away. On this episode of The Future Belongs to Creators, Haley joined me to share the behind-the-scenes details and work that goes into making these so special.

WHAT I'M DOING

Monopoly Deal

My older boys and I have been playing a lot of Monopoly Deal. It's a card game version of monopoly which allows you to get in much faster games, perfect for shorter attention spans.

I love watching them figure out strategies they want to use, and doing something that keeps them engaged for 20 minutes. They are 6 and 8 and have gotten really competitive with each other, and me!

...wonder where they got that from?

FROM THE VLOG

Breakfast on the Fly

A couple of weeks ago Hilary made breakfast sandwiches so good that I decided they needed to be shared. Luckily my brother and sister-in-law live close by so we decided to send them—by drone of course. I keep telling Hilary that she needs to do a cooking show, and this video only has me more convinced. Hey Reader, What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? You’ve probably seen some version of this question before. It’s a good one, though sometimes the answer isn’t immediately obvious. That’s why I like Graham Weaver’s 8 questions for what to do with your life. Graham founded the private equity firm Alpine Investors, and he teaches at Stanford. In Chapter 2 of my upcoming book, The Ladders of Wealth, I credit him with a principle he shared with his MBA students called "worse first",...

Hey Reader, If I could solve only one thing in my business, that would have the biggest impact, what would that be? This is the question every great entrepreneur obsesses over. Rather than trying to do everything at once, you look for the bottleneck and focus on solving that. There’s a book called The Goal by an Israeli physicist named Eliyahu Goldratt. It’s a 1984 business novel that business systems nerds love. However if you’re not a business systems nerd you probably… won’t love it. It’s...

A hundred dollar bill against a plain light background.

Hey Reader, Have you ever spent money on something and immediately felt guilty afterward? Will Guidara spends his money foolishly on purpose. And he thinks you should too. He once bought an entire barrel of whiskey and put it in his basement. He also put a skee-ball machine in the office. Is he going to get a monetary return on either of these things? No. But that’s kind of the point. He calls it the 95/5 rule: Manage your money and time like a maniac 95% of the time (no expense is too...
