Explode your list growth with a referral program

Hey there,

How's your week so far? I'm feeling grateful that vaccines are rolling out faster and we are starting to see light at the end of this ridiculous tunnel.

After a year without travel I have my first trip planned for the end of this month. Two years ago I took a sailing class to be able to charter my own sailboats, but with a new baby, then COVID that never happened.

This trip we're chartering a 43 ft catamaran in the US Virgin Islands. Living away from everyone on a sailboat for a week is actually a pretty good quarantine activity!

FROM ART OF NEWSLETTERS

Louis Nicholls - Explode your list growth: Use a referral program

Louis Nicholls is the co-founder of SparkLoop, an email newsletter referral program where you can have each of your subscribers refer their friends to unlock rewards.

SparkLoop is amazing. We invested last year and they're growing really quickly in the audience-building space and ConvertKit actually gives away free SparkLoop accounts to all of our Creator Pro customers.

In this episode, Louis talks about how to increase your email list growth rate by more than 30% with a referral program. He also gives his (hot!) take on paid newsletters, discusses how best to monetize your audience, and so much more.

FROM CREATOR SESSIONS

JOHNNYSWIM

We were joined by Abner and Amanda Ramirez for a Creator Session a few months ago. They are the husband and wife duo who sang the theme song for Fixer Upper, the Chip and Joanna Gaines HGTV show. Abner and Amanda joined us from their home studio and we even got a cameo from their adorable toddler. They are so real and fun together that the episode is just delightful to watch.

Hey Reader, What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? You’ve probably seen some version of this question before. It’s a good one, though sometimes the answer isn’t immediately obvious. That’s why I like Graham Weaver’s 8 questions for what to do with your life. Graham founded the private equity firm Alpine Investors, and he teaches at Stanford. In Chapter 2 of my upcoming book, The Ladders of Wealth, I credit him with a principle he shared with his MBA students called "worse first",...

Hey Reader, If I could solve only one thing in my business, that would have the biggest impact, what would that be? This is the question every great entrepreneur obsesses over. Rather than trying to do everything at once, you look for the bottleneck and focus on solving that. There’s a book called The Goal by an Israeli physicist named Eliyahu Goldratt. It’s a 1984 business novel that business systems nerds love. However if you’re not a business systems nerd you probably… won’t love it. It’s...

A hundred dollar bill against a plain light background.

Hey Reader, Have you ever spent money on something and immediately felt guilty afterward? Will Guidara spends his money foolishly on purpose. And he thinks you should too. He once bought an entire barrel of whiskey and put it in his basement. He also put a skee-ball machine in the office. Is he going to get a monetary return on either of these things? No. But that’s kind of the point. He calls it the 95/5 rule: Manage your money and time like a maniac 95% of the time (no expense is too...
