How expert marketers get more subscribers

Hey there,

Thanks for all the feedback on the private newsletter about money, I was honestly really surprised how many of you were interested! I started writing it and hope to have it ready for sale in a couple weeks.

It's still up in the air, but I think there will be two ways to get access: a) buy it for a one time payment of $100, or b) refer five friends to this newsletter through the new referral program I'm launching with SparkLoop.

It's still early, but as always I'll keep building and experimenting in public.

WHAT I'M READING

No millennials aren't poorer than previous generations

If you had a reaction to that headline, I'd totally recommend reading the article. As with any headline, it doesn't tell the whole story and there is some really interesting stuff in there. Like most things, there is nuance in analyzing the experience of a whole generation and this article does a good job of diving into all that.

WHAT'S NEW AT CONVERTKIT

Evergreen sequences, embedding video, and more

There is so much being built these days at ConvertKit that it can be hard to keep up! One recent feature that I'm excited about is the ability to hold subscribers in an evergreen sequence. Let's say you create a 1-time newsletter sequence with 8 emails, but then a few weeks later you realize you want to add one more email to that and wrap things up in a different way. All your subscribers who have finished that sequence will be there waiting for you to easily add on to it!

I also love the embed video feature. We've seen some amazing engagement when people can see the video directly in their email, its just one less click to get your content in front of them.

Hey Reader, What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? You’ve probably seen some version of this question before. It’s a good one, though sometimes the answer isn’t immediately obvious. That’s why I like Graham Weaver’s 8 questions for what to do with your life. Graham founded the private equity firm Alpine Investors, and he teaches at Stanford. In Chapter 2 of my upcoming book, The Ladders of Wealth, I credit him with a principle he shared with his MBA students called "worse first",...

Hey Reader, If I could solve only one thing in my business, that would have the biggest impact, what would that be? This is the question every great entrepreneur obsesses over. Rather than trying to do everything at once, you look for the bottleneck and focus on solving that. There’s a book called The Goal by an Israeli physicist named Eliyahu Goldratt. It’s a 1984 business novel that business systems nerds love. However if you’re not a business systems nerd you probably… won’t love it. It’s...

Hey Reader, Have you ever spent money on something and immediately felt guilty afterward? Will Guidara spends his money foolishly on purpose. And he thinks you should too. He once bought an entire barrel of whiskey and put it in his basement. He also put a skee-ball machine in the office. Is he going to get a monetary return on either of these things? No. But that’s kind of the point. He calls it the 95/5 rule: Manage your money and time like a maniac 95% of the time (no expense is too...
