Hey there,
Before we dive into the regular newsletter, I'm thinking about starting something new: a secret newsletter all about money.
There's a lot written about personal finance and earning a living from your work (I wrote a book about it), but there isn't much about what you should do with your money: particularly when you have a lot.
Let's say you follow my advice, build a successful ConvertKit audience, and start earning $200,000 per year. What now?
I haven't written about it because it would inevitably be met with replies of, "wouldn't that be nice" or complaints of how those are first world problems. People get weird about money, so there's not a lot of upside to talking about that in public.
But I'm going to do it anyway. But more in private. A secret newsletter all about money, not accessible to the general public. The kind of thing we talk about in private with our friends, but not on blogs.
It will be paid (just one-time, not recurring). Is that something you'd be interested in? Hit reply and let me know.
Alright, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
If you're active on Twitter you've probably seen people posting essays as part of the Ship 30 for 30 course, an online cohort based course teaching writers how to write better, grow their audience, and show up consistently.
I immediately wanted to talk to the person behind it: Dickie Bush is a full time Portfolio Manager based in NYC. He's also quickly grown an audience over just the last year.
In this episode we cover the Twitter algorithm, viral loops, cohort based courses, and more.
Simon Owens does a great job of laying out his experience publishing on Medium, and what he thinks it takes to succeed as an author on that platform. Unlocking the distribution puzzle is not easy, and it seems that Medium has not solved it yet.
This video of Justin Timberlake is so fun to watch. It has Creator Sessions vibes in the way he tells stories behind the creation of his music and breaks down the way songs are made. His passion and talent are so clear as you hear him talk, and it was just really fun to see.

Hey Reader, What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? You’ve probably seen some version of this question before. It’s a good one, though sometimes the answer isn’t immediately obvious. That’s why I like Graham Weaver’s 8 questions for what to do with your life. Graham founded the private equity firm Alpine Investors, and he teaches at Stanford. In Chapter 2 of my upcoming book, The Ladders of Wealth, I credit him with a principle he shared with his MBA students called "worse first",...
Hey Reader, If I could solve only one thing in my business, that would have the biggest impact, what would that be? This is the question every great entrepreneur obsesses over. Rather than trying to do everything at once, you look for the bottleneck and focus on solving that. There’s a book called The Goal by an Israeli physicist named Eliyahu Goldratt. It’s a 1984 business novel that business systems nerds love. However if you’re not a business systems nerd you probably… won’t love it. It’s...
Hey Reader, Have you ever spent money on something and immediately felt guilty afterward? Will Guidara spends his money foolishly on purpose. And he thinks you should too. He once bought an entire barrel of whiskey and put it in his basement. He also put a skee-ball machine in the office. Is he going to get a monetary return on either of these things? No. But that’s kind of the point. He calls it the 95/5 rule: Manage your money and time like a maniac 95% of the time (no expense is too...
