made for creators, by creators

Hey Reader,

I spent last week filming my own creator story with Isa and Henry, our storyteller and filmmaker from the ConvertKit team.

It's been so fun to go back to the origin story of ConvertKit and relive all the early moments.

Last fall at when Isa asked me to do the story I said no because I don't like being the center of ConvertKit's marketing. For years at Craft + Commerce (our conference) I would give one talk and that was it, rather than being emcee and spending a lot of time on stage (this year I did a bit more).

But when Isa and Charli (our creative director) shared their vision for more of our marketing to emphasize that ConvertKit is built for creators, by creators I realized I had to do it.

And it was fun. So sometime this fall expect to see a 20 minute film that tells the whole backstory of ConvertKit including some really tough moments.

Fresh start campaign

Speaking of which, I imagine if you're on this newsletter you already use ConvertKit. But if not, we're running a "Fresh Start" campaign in July to help professional creators switch to ConvertKit and get a fresh start with their email marketing.

If that's you (or you know someone) check out the campaign. It's also just a beautiful marketing page with a fun video:

A thread on pricing that will save you thousands!

You spend all this time creating a valuable product, but how much time do you spend thinking about how to price and package it? I learned early on that you leave a lot of money on the table if you use just one price for your product!

LEX markets

Do you know what my second highest income source is? It's also where I have most of my personal wealth outside of ConvertKit: Real estate.

That is one of the many reasons I asked LEX to sponsor my newsletter.

LEX turns individual buildings into public stocks via IPO so you can invest, trade, and manage your own portfolio of high-quality commercial real estate. Any US investor can open a LEX account, browse opportunities in various asset classes such as multifamily and office buildings, and buy shares of individual buildings. LEX opens up direct ownership in an asset class that has previously been inaccessible to most investors. Sign up today.

Have a great week,

Making money is a skill

Hey Reader, One winter morning when I was twelve, I sat at the kitchen table eating cereal, staring out the window at the largest snowflakes I'd ever seen. Every other kid in Boise was sledding. I was homeschooled, which meant no snow days. My mom spoke up: "You know, Nathan, school doesn't have to take a set amount of time. The sooner you complete your work, the sooner you can go sledding." Two hours later I was on the hill. That morning I understood something I carried with me for years. I...

Hey Reader, A lot of the rules we built our work habits around made sense before AI. Some of them held up for decades. Right now, in early 2026, I think it's worth asking which ones still do. Here are five things I think are worth throwing out: 1. Detailed mid-level planning Knowing where you're going is still important. But the master plan that used to live between the destination and the work itself is mostly just a way to delay starting. Before, mapping out how all the systems connect just...

Stack of balanced stones on a rocky shore

Hey Reader, If I say something dumb, I'm probably still replaying it in my head 11 years later. Just me? It’s an exhausting feeling. You're not really solving anything, you're just reliving the moment over and over. And when you're building a business, there's always something new to add to the pile. After a while, it gets hard to tell which things actually need your attention and which ones you've just been dragging around. Start by writing everything down. When a worry stays in your head,...
