How I added 10,000 followers on LinkedIn in 10 days

Hey Reader,

I've heard for a while that LinkedIn was a great place to grow your audience, but I didn't pay attention. That is until my friend Sahil Bloom pushed me to take a couple threads and post them to LinkedIn as carousels.

I started at 1,750 followers and after 3 carousels and 10 days I had over 11,000 followers. The engagement is also really good with hundreds of comments on each post.

But I don't really care about having followers on another social platform: I care about growing this newsletter where I have a direct relationship of my audience.

On Monday I made a dedicated landing page for LinkedIn (for cleaner reporting) in ConvertKit and added a few links on my profile. In 3 days that's driven 120 subscribers. That's really promising!

For now my plan is to post twice a week until I run out of threads to share. Then I'll decide what the next step is. Right now it looks like this will be a great source of new readers for my content.

WHAT I'M READING

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buying Wrexham AFC

I'm fascinated by the idea that with an audience you can buy something that would normally be completely unaffordable. What was a struggling football club is now thriving with a Netflix show, sold out matches, a dedicated fanbase, a good flow of sponsorship deals, and tons of exposure.

This is the same idea of what's happening at Cerro Gordo with the 1.5 million subscriber YouTube channel helping to fund an insanely expensive project.

MADE ME LAUGH

What would you do with FU money?

You all know I'm a Taylor Swift fan, but this infographic is so funny regardless. Take out the re-recordings of Fearless and Red and you've got a perfect hockey stick growth pattern.

WHAT I'M READING

What did you pay for a premium domain?

I love when creators and entrepreneurs share detailed numbers with each other. Ankur shared what he paid for two domains (I think he got great deals!) and then a bunch of other people chimed in with their experiences. If you're looking to buy a premium domain it's good to have a frame of reference like this.

Hey Reader, Imagine someone bought your business tomorrow. What's the first thing they would change? Maybe they'd raise prices. Or fire that team member who's been dragging things down. Would they automate the task you've been doing manually for years? Hire for the role you keep saying you'll fill eventually? When I ask creators this question, they usually know the answer immediately. They don't even need to think about it. The answer is already sitting there, waiting. You probably know what...

Hey Reader, "I will write 1,000 words every day." That's the commitment I made in 2012 that changed my life. I ended up writing 100,000 words in 100 days and went on to write 266,000 words in a year. I wrote every day for nearly two years before finally breaking the chain. Writing consistently continues to be one of the most important habits of my career. So when my coach asked me what I'd regret not doing the most if I imagined my life 5 to 10 years from now, my answer surprised me: writing...

Double-Axis Reality

Hey Reader, Would you rather improve your fitness or spend time with family? This looks like a reasonable question, but it's actually a false dichotomy. The question assumes you have to choose between two things that aren't actually in opposition. You've heard of false dichotomies, but there's a subtler version of this trap that I call the Single-Axis Fallacy—where we accept that both options exist but wrongly assume that having more of one means less of the other. The reality is that fitness...
